The Osolia Historical Society is an independent agency of the Osolian state which is responsible for managing the Osolia Wiki.
The agency is led by TheRandomMelon, who is the current Speaker and Director of Finance of Osolia.
History
The Osolia Historical Society is the direct successor to the Melonia Civic Society that existed during Osolia's predecessor, the Republic of Melonia. The Melonia Civic Society's main task was also to run and maintain their own wiki, the Melonia Wiki. Despite this history, an Osolia Wiki was not officially suggested until Speaker tz_scion on May 19, 2024 when he asked the Assembly for their views on the idea. Speaker Scion, TriforceComet and Michael Webb all agreed that one would be good, but the idea didn't go much farther until June 16, 2024 when Michael Webb brought up the idea once again.
This time, however, the idea was discussed in far more detail, with making decisions such as deciding to use MediaWiki rather than Melonia Wiki's DokuWiki for this iteration, and the Osolia Wiki officially opened in the early hours of June 17, 2024. Since then, the wiki has been edited over 1,300 times, and over 80 pages have been created as of November 26, 2024.[1]
Responsibilities
The main responsibility the Osolia Historical Society holds is running and maintaining the Osolia Wiki, but it also seeks to preserve the history of the Chiefdom of Osolia, with regular updates to the wiki and sometimes taking their own screenshots of certain events to catalog them in a more visual manner. They will also comb through the over 150,000 messages on the Chiefdom of Osolia Discord server to find previously lost information to preserve it also.
