General elections were held in Osolia on April 15th 2024. These were the first contested elections, where both the incumbent Speaker and Chief faced against other candidates.
Candidacy submissions opened on the 11th of April and lasted until the 14th of April. Polling stayed open for 41 hours.
Electoral system
During a general election, Osolians vote for the Chief, who leads the executive, and the Speaker, who leads the legislature.
Elections in Osolia employ instant-runoff voting. Voters rank the candidates for each position in order of preference. During counting, the candidate with the lowest number of votes is eliminated in several rounds until someone achieves a majority of the electorate.
Candidacy
Incumbent Speaker tz_scion declared candidacy for the position of Speaker on April 11th. Incumbent Chief Michael Webb declared candidacy for the position of Chief one day later.
Hydrogen was the first to contest Michael's position as Chief and declared candidacy for Chief 13 hours later. CalvinX also declared candidacy for Chief just an hour later.
Lastly, Yin declared candidacy for the position of Speaker, contesting Scion for the first time.
Results for Chief
Incumbent Michael Webb won a majority of the vote with 57% in the first round.
Calvin and Hydrogen both had 3 first-choice votes, leading to both receiving 21.4% of the vote.
