Residents in Osolia are players who have been invited but have not yet become citizens. Residents hold the same rights as regular Osolian citizens, except for inviting other players, which is reserved for citizens, and their reduced threshold for forced removal—5 votes instead of a majority of the Osolian Assembly.

Residents become citizens after 21 days.

History

Residency was introduced by the Invitation Act as a way to clearly and legally distinguish between fully naturalized citizens, who could invite players, and newer players who were not yet permitted to invite. It was argued that creating two classes of citizens distinguished solely by join date could violate a citizen's constitutional rights.

The restrictions on invitations were put in place due to a fear of cliques forming rapidly, alienating other players.

Rights of residents

Residents are guaranteed the "same rights and privileges as citizens" per the Constitution. Despite the Constitution sometimes referring to "citizens", this has been interpreted to cover all players except when such a distinction is made intentionally.
