The Osolia Public Radio Signal Tower, commonly referred to as simply the OPR Tower or the Radio Tower, is a building in the city of Sahosam in the Chiefdom of Osolia that was built to serve as a cultural icon of the Chiefdom of Osolia, as the symbolic representation of Osolia Public Radio, a public radio station owned by Speaker Michael Webb. The tower is designed to look like a typical radio tower in real life that broadcasts a radio signal to the masses.

The tower is 74 blocks tall, making it currently the tallest building in the Chiefdom of Osolia.

History

Construction

Construction of the Osolia Public Radio Signal Tower took place on January 12, 2024. It was constructed by tz_scion, who was following a tutorial created by YouTube channel crafterjacob titled "MINECRAFT - How to Build a Radio Tower - Easy Tutorial".

Several changes were made compared to the original video, however, such as not including the fence shown in the video, making the tower more metallic looking and less colorful, and adding lightning rods to protect the tower from lightning strikes as per an Osolian custom that dates back to a law in the Republic of Melonia that required them after the partial burning of their capitol building.

This construction took place as an activity Scion was doing on the server while engaging in a voice chat (VC) in the Osolia server that day where at-the-time Chief and later Speaker Michael Webb conducted a sarcastic dramatic reading of the famous Harry potter fanfiction My Immortal.

Architecture

The building was designed by tz_scion, in conjunction with a video tutorial available on YouTube.

The Osolia Public Radio Signal Tower is built to resemble a real-life communications tower, with a heavily industrial and metallic design. It is situated on top of a large hill overlooking the rest of Sahosam, giving it a grand sense of height, especially when looking up at it from most Sahosam streets. The tower is 74 blocks tall, making it currently the tallest building in the Chiefdom of Osolia.

The interior simply contains a tall pillar with a ladder attached to it, allowing people to climb up to the top of the tower.

Cultural relevancy

The tower serves as a cultural icon in the Chiefdom of Osolia, not only as a general landmark of Sahosam, but also as the physical representation of Osolia Public Radio on the server. Osolia Public Radio is a public radio network ran by Michael Webb which hosts 24/7 music, called "Regular Programming", and two DJ-style radio shows; The DJ Hour and Vinyl Vantage.

The tower symbolizes where Osolia Public Radio broadcasts these shows from, and how they reach Osolians.
