The Department of Events was a department of the Osolian government which was responsible for creating and operating community and in-game events, such as Minecraft minigames, Jackbox nights, and movie nights.

The department was abolished on December 9, 2024, after Chief tz_scion implemented the Governmental Reorganization Amendment to abolish the Department of Finance and the Department of Events. The Director of Events, TriforceComet, chose to let Chief Scion fire him when dissolving the department. The department's responsibilities are now held directly by the Chief.

Responsibilities

The Department of Events was responsible for the creation, development and operation of all community and in-game events. This took various forms, from simple community events such as Jackbox Night, where community members gather in a call to play the party video game series The Jackbox Party Pack, to elaborate themed in-game events such as Osolia Party, a Mario Party-styled game with an Osolian and Minecraft twist to it.

The department was also responsible for operating items related to events, such as providing corporate shop stands near big events to bolster businesses.

History

Creation

The Department of Events was established on April 16, 2024 by Chief Michael Webb in response to the growing demand for action by the Osolian government to address stagnancy and inactivity on the Osolian Minecraft server. Initially, Webb was going to appoint later-Chief TriforceComet to this position, but Triforce declined due to being unable to take on responsibilities such as a Cabinet role at the time.

Webb instead appointed at-the-time First Lady TheCelestialJellyfish aka Star. In a statement the Chief's Office published on April 16, 2024, Chief Webb stated, "She is an amazing builder, and has the leadership skills and abilities to create some great events for all of us to enjoy." The Osolian Assembly voted with a large majority to appoint TheCelestialJellyfish to this position. The vote tally of the measure is listed below.

From there, several ideas were passed around during Star's term as Director, most notably Osolia Party, a Mario Party-style game that would be played within the Osolian server, with an Osolian/Minecraft twist. The first board for the game had begun construction and various gameplay elements were drafted, but nothing came to fruition during Star's term.

On July 4, 2024, following a low approval rating of 20% in the Osolia July 2024 approval rating poll, the lowest amongst all officials in government, Star announced her resignation from the Department of Events, citing her inability to balance the responsibilities of the office with her personal life. Chief TriforceComet never appointed a successor, instead taking on the Director of Events' responsibilities himself.

New beginnings

On August 16, 2024, CalvinX succeded TriforceComet as Chief of Osolia. After taking the reins as Chief, Calvin sought to finally bring in a Director of Events to move the department forward. He appointed cstro due to a positive interview between him and Calvin in DMs during the election. In the short time that cstro was Director of Events, he planned out and constructed Osolia Feud, an Osolian version of the famous game show Family Feud. However, on September 6, 2024, cstro left the Osolian Discord server, renouncing citizenship per the Server Security Amendment.

Chief CalvinX appointed TriforceComet on September 12, 2024 to replace him as Triforce has been interested in the position for a while, but wanted a break from government for a while. He was confirmed unanimously by the Assembly on September 13, 2024.
