The Streets and Roads Act is a law in Osolia, passed by the Osolian Assembly with 100% approval. It was the second bill to be passed by the Assembly. The act codifies Overworld streets and roads. It defines guidelines for the construction of streets and roads.

Background

The city of Sahosam had been developing quite rapidly at this point in time, with the city becoming organized and standardized because of its construction of streets.

However, there was no law standardizing how streets or roads should be constructed throughout Osolia, and Speaker tz_scion decided to write the Streets and Roads Act to accomplish this, along with improving the road system aesthetically and economically.

Provisions

Conditions on the legislation

The legislation states that it only applies to the Overworld dimension, and specifically excludes the Nether and End dimensions in particular from its provisions.

Streets

Streets in this legislation refer to a paved path consisting of a three-block wide stone brick surface, which is level with the ground, to be used for navigational assistance in urban settlements such as Sahosam. The legislation specifically states that streets should not be built in rural areas.

If the terrain surrounding a street is stone, gravel, or any similarly colored block, the streets within that terrain shall be constructed out of brick instead.

To save on construction costs, the legislation allows the use of stone brick slabs instead of full stone brick blocks, but demands that the air underneath the slab be fully hidden by surrounding blocks.

Furthermore, streets should not slope a block upwards/downwards more than 4 blocks at a time unless the terrain makes it impossible. If it does, however, measures should be taken to ensure that it is impossible to take fall damage from jumping and sprinting down the street. If the terrain does not allow that either, then clear signage must be posted warning of the potential fall damage.

Roads

Roads in this legislation refer to a paved path consisting of five-block wide path blocks, with oak slabs used for slopes, to be used in rural/outlying areas. The legislation specifically states that roads should not be built in urban areas.

While the construction of streets are specific, the legislation states that roads are more flexible, and therefore, the below construction guidelines are simply guidelines and not entirely legally binding.

When roads take 90 degree turns, the road shall be constructed as this diagram indicates, accounting for the rotation necessary for the road in question:
