The First Lady/Gentleman was a former cabinet position in the Chief's Council in the Chiefdom of Osolia, created by former Chief Michael Webb as an honorary position for the Chief's partner.

Creation and history

On February 13, 2024, Chief Michael Webb made an announcement stating his intentions to create the "Department of the First Lady". He stated that, "[t]his department, officially, will deal with the more social aspects of the Chiefdom, and will mainly perform ceremonial duties in major government events." He went on to explain that he made it a department for legal reasons, as the Osolian Constitution has no provision for the Chief to create non-Cabinet positions. Webb, and later, most Osolian citizens, did not consider the First Lady/Gentleman position to be a Cabinet position, hence the exclusion of a "Department of the First Lady" article on the Osolia Wiki.

However, since the position was still legally a Cabinet position, Speaker tz_scion began an Assemblymeasure around the same time as the announcement to approve Webb's choice for the position, TheCelestialJellyfish. Voters overwhelmingly approved her, with no votes directly opposing her appointment. The full results are listed below.

The position was mostly unheard from, with First Lady Star (TheCelestialJellyfish) taking the role purely as an honorary position. However, during the June 2024 Osolian general election, TriforceComet defeated incumbent Chief Michael Webb. Therefore, this position would receive a shakeup. Chief Triforce's first action as Chief was to appoint former Chief Michael Webb as the First Gentleman, partially as a reference to the long-standing joke of Triforce and Webb being a gay couple, but also so that former Chief Webb could serve as a direct advisor/right-hand-man to the Chief. This was not voted on by the Assembly due to the aforementioned cultural acceptance of the role as a non-Cabinet position.

Abolition

On June 21, 2024, Director of City Planning CalvinX made his case for the abolition of the First Lady/Gentleman position as he believed it was not a necessary position and was mostly just a relic of Chief Webb's reign. After a while of heated debate between multiple Osolians, including Speaker Scion, Webb (who held the position at the time) and Hydrogen, Speaker Scion decided to start an Assembly measure to abolish the position.

To the vocal surprise of Speaker Scion and Michael Webb, the measure had a large majority of supporters, with the final vote tally for abolition listed below.
