The First Lady/Gentleman was a former cabinet position in the Chief's Council in the Chiefdom of Osolia, created by former Chief Michael Webb as an honorary position for the Chief's partner.

Creation and history

Initial appointment

On February 13, 2024, Chief Michael Webb made an announcement stating his intentions to create the "Department of the First Lady". He stated that, "[t]his department, officially, will deal with the more social aspects of the Chiefdom, and will mainly perform ceremonial duties in major government events."

The position was structured as a department, as the Osolian Constitution has no provision for the Chief to create official positions outside of the Chief's Council. The position was slowly redefined overtime by Webb and other Osolians, and was later no longer considered a department, despite never being legally dissolved.

Speaker tz_scion began a vote of the Assembly shortly after the announcement to confirm the appointment of the First Lady, TheCelestialJellyfish. Voters unanimously approved her, with no votes directly opposing her appointment.

The position was mostly unheard from, with First Lady Star (TheCelestialJellyfish) taking the role purely as an honorary position.

Under the TriforceComet administration

During the June 2024 Osolian general election, TriforceComet defeated incumbent Chief Michael Webb. Therefore, the position would receive a shakeup. Chief Triforce's first action as Chief was to appoint former Chief Michael Webb as the First Gentleman, partially as a reference to a long-standing joke claiming that Triforce and Webb are a gay couple, but also so that former Chief Webb could serve as a direct advisor/right-hand-man to the Chief.

No Assembly vote was created to confirm Webb due to the redefinition of the role over time.

Abolition

On June 21, 2024, Director of City Planning CalvinX made his case for the abolition of the First Lady/Gentleman position, stating it was unnecessary, a relic of the previous administration, and had unchecked powers not defined in law. Hearing Calvin's case, as well as the arguments for and against the role from other Osolians, Speaker Scion started a vote of the Assembly to abolish the position.

To the vocal surprise of Speaker Scion and Michael Webb, the measure received a large majority of supporters.
