Laws in the Chiefdom of Osolia are documents that are written to legally define operations of the government, and to regulate citizen and government behavior. These laws can be written by any citizen as a bill and proposed to the Osolian Assembly, and are then put up for a vote by the Speaker. If the Assembly approves a bill with a majority vote, it will become a law to be enforced by the Chief and their Council. The legal details of passing a law are described in the Constitution of the Chiefdom of Osolia, the supreme law of the land that describes how the Osolian government functions.

Creation

Typically, the creation of a bill, which becomes law upon passage by the Assembly, will begin by a discussion amongst Assembly members in a formal or informal setting, typically in the #assembly channel on the Osolian Discord server. From there, any citizen(s) who wish(es) to, typically the Speaker, will draft a formal bill that includes many elements discussed previously. This bill will then be debated upon by members of the Assembly, who may suggest amendments, or changes, to the bill to fix potential issues that are seen in the original draft.

Passage

Once a bill is introduced and any potential issues have been ironed out, the Speaker will then formally propose the bill to the Assembly in a vote held amongst all Assembly members. This vote typically lasts 24 hours, but can be longer if the Speaker wishes to do so. Once the vote concludes, the results are tallied up. If a majority of members vote to approve a bill, it will become law, and shall then be enforced.

Enforcement

Laws are typically enforced by the Chief and their Council members, as they are considered the "executive branch". As laws are seen as an act of the Assembly, it is of high importance that these laws be enforced as described in their texts and that any violations of the law be swiftly dealt with by the appropriate party or parties named in the law itself.

Amending

Laws may be amended by the Assembly by following the process outlined above, but with the bill text specifically describing what law(s) are being amended, and what sections are being added to, removed, or modified. This process is slightly modified if the Constitution of the Chiefdom of Osolia is being amended in the bill. Specifically, any Constitutional Amendment must be approved with a 2/3rds, or 67% approval, instead of a simple majority.
