The Director of City Planning was a cabinet position in the Chief's Council in the Chiefdom of Osolia, created around the same time as Osolia itself to create and manage city streets, buildings, and other city infrastructure.

Creation and history

Initial appointment

During the creation of Osolia, while it was still known as the Melonian Transitional State, tz_scion was heavily involved in the initial plans for creating Osolia's first city, later to be known as Sahosam. He proposed ideas that differed from Osolia's predecessor, Melonia, such as not requiring people to pay for land/properties, being lax but not entirely removing the enforcement of property boundaries, and ensuring that initial buildings had room to expand on Osolia's first streets.

Since Scion was clearly passionate and involved in city planning, Chief Michael Webb appointed him to become the first Director of City Planning.

Under the Webb administration

The City Planning department was heavily involved in the general operations of Osolia during Chief Webb's terms, especially during his first term (December 15, 2023 - February 15, 2024). During this time, Sahosam was developed, with many of its core features still remaining to this day, such as general street layouts, the construction of Mordor Bridge, and a standardized system for building and naming streets and roads that would later be formalized into the Streets and Roads Act.

The Department's work slowed down after this first term, however, until the position received more attention during the June 2024 Osolian general election.

Under the TriforceComet administration

During the June 2024 Osolian general election, TriforceComet defeated incumbent Chief Michael Webb. Therefore, this position would receive a new director: CalvinX. Calvin is a well-regarded long-time citizen of the Chiefdom who previously served in high-ranking roles in Melonia, even serving as Melonia's last Prime Minister, the 2nd highest office in that nation. However, he remained neutral on most political matters until he accepted Hydrogen and later TriforceComet's nominations for Director of City Planning during the June 2024 election.

The Assembly unanimously confirmed Calvin to the Director position.

During his term, he pushed for and began the construction of a large-scale nether highway system to facilitate much faster travel between common locations such as Sahosam and far-off areas such as some citizens' bases, as some citizens chose to build thousands of blocks outside of Sahosam in order to have full control over a larger plot of land. This nether highway was about halfway complete before the (legal) abolition of the City Planning department.

Abolition

On June 28, 2024, Speaker tz_scion wrote a formal proposal to the Osolian Assembly and Chief TriforceComet. His full proposal read as follows:

Calvin has been doing good work in the Department of City Planning when it comes to national infrastructure, but I feel like the actual city of Sahosam is being left behind a bit. I think there's a lot of missed potential that can be tapped into if it was given more attention.

Because of this, I want to propose that the Department of City Planning is changed to the Department of Infrastructure (More focused on national infrastructure and public farms), and a Governor of Sahosam is appointed. (The law regarding this is here: [1])

This will require two votes, one to confirm Calvin as Director of Infrastructure, and one to confirm [TriforceComet's] choice of Governor of Sahosam.

This was discussed for a short period of time with many having no objections to this proposal, and as such, Speaker tz_scion began a measure of the Assembly to carry forth the motion to rework the City Planning department into the Department of Infrastructure:

This vote concluded on June 29, 2024, and the Department of City Planning was abolished upon the vote's passing. Legally, this measure abolished the Department of City Planning, created a Department of Infrastructure, and confirmed CalvinX as the first Director of Infrastructure, as explained by Scion before the vote, but the measure was written as is above for simplicity reasons.
